United Downs, Geothermal Project

Project Details:

The United Downs Deep Geothermal Power (UDDGP) project stands as the pioneer geothermal power plant in the UK. The project aims to unlock the potential of hot granite rocks beneath Cornwall by generating both power and heat at the United Downs Industrial Site near Redruth. The successful drilling of two deep, directional wells has been a significant milestone, with the production well drilled to a remarkable depth of 5275m and the injection well to 2393m, both intersecting the target Porthtowan Fault Zone approximately 800m west of the site.

Inacoustic was privileged to be part of this remarkable project, by offering long-term noise monitoring to assist with a Section 61 agreement, that enables the drilling process to operate 24 hours a day, provided the agreed noise criteria is achieved. Our team employed cutting-edge remote long-term noise monitoring software to establish any noise that could arise from the drilling process and address any complaints that may arise. During the project, measurements were taken both off and on-site to ascertain the genuineness of complaints as they emerged. This allowed for a seamless interaction between our team, the client, and local authorities, who could access the noise monitoring software at any time of the day, from devices with internet accessibility. This impeccable integration facilitated a prompt and efficient resolution of complaints.
